Engineer Edmund James Palmer Norton arrives in Argentina to help build a railway across the Andes and falls in love with the terroir of Mendoza. Making a dramatic change, he decided to found his own vineyard in Luján de Cuyo with vines imported from France.

  • 1919 Construction begins on the winery that we see today.
  • 1951 Norton´s fine red and white wines receive national acclaim.
  • 1970 Bodega Norton adquires the Medrano, Lunlunta and Agrelo estates.

A NEW CHAPTER

  • 1989 Austrian businessman Gernot Langes-Swarovski is bowled over by the beauty of Mendoza and sees the potential in developing Argentinian wines. He decides to buy Bodega Norton, the region´s only traditional winery surrounded by its own vines.
  • 1991 Under Michael Halstrick, Gernot Langes-Swarovski´s son, a new era begins at the vineyard, with investment and expansion making Bodega Norton one of the first wineries to develop an export market.
A NEW CHAPTER

PUTTING MALBEC ON THE MAP

  • 1994 Bodega Norton becomes a synonymous with Argentian Malbec and is recognised with the D.O.C. (Denominacion de Origin Controlada) classification. Renowned enologist Jorge Riccitelli presents the Norton Malbec D.O.C. to the market.
  • 1997 Bodega Norton acquires one of Mendoza´s largest estates, the 1,000-acre Finca La Colonia, set in the heart of Alto Agrelo, in Luján de Cuyo.
  • 1998 Construction begins on Bodega Norton´s Wine Bar, offering panoramic views of the Cordón del Plata mountain and the Andes range. Bodega Norton lanza Reserva Malbec, su vino de Alta Gama premiado por más de 8 cosechas consecutivas por los críticos internacionales más reconocidos.

THE NEW SPARKLING

  • 2000 Bodega Norton becomes one of the first wineries in the country to produce sparkling wine with its Norton Espumantes range

THE AWARDS ROLL IN

  • 2000 - 2004

    Michael Halstrick is awarded the "Businessman of the Year in the Vitiviniculture Industry" and Bodega Norton is included in the top 100 most admired companies in Argentina by the country’s two major newspapers (La Nación and Clarín).

  • 2009 The restaurant La Vid opens at the winery, providing visitors with the chance to enjoy spectacular contemporary Argentinian cuisine from the region, perfectly paired with Bodega Norton wines.

The Accolades Accumulate

  • 2012 Bodega Norton enologist Jorge Riccitelli is the first South American to be named ¨Winemaker of the Year¨ by prestigious US magazine Wine Enthusiast. Wine Spectator includes Norton Reserva Malbec 2010 in its list of the Top 100 Wines.

  • 2014 Norton launches its Single Vineyard line of high-end wines named LOTE, an innovative concept that allows consumers to enjoy the differing terroirs of each estate.

  • 2014 Bodega Norton becomes one of the most important export wineries of Argentina, exporting high-end wines to more than 60 countries.

Signature Winemaking

  • 2017 Looking for a way to better reflect the quality wines and expertise that Bodega Norton represents, not to mention its family-spirited team of workers, the winery takes a new direction with its brand. An image overhaul sees new bottles sporting a special signature to celebrate Bodega Norton´s long history as a pioneer of Argentinian wines. The handwritten phrase ´Signature Winemaking´ will denote the quality and heritage of Bodega Norton, inspired by Edward Norton himself and continued for more than 120 years.
